Chancellor’s Distinguished Service Award

The Chancellor’s Distinguished Service Award recognizes university faculty, staff, and organizations for outstanding service outside of teaching or research in a UC Berkeley school, college, or department, academic or nonacademic. The Chancellor works closely with a confidential committee to select each recipient. The award is given at a public function, and the recipients must be present to accept it.

Nomination Process

Deadline:

Spring — April 25, 2025

Fall — September 19, 2025

Faculty, staff, and organizations are eligible for the Chancellor’s Distinguished Service Award. To nominate someone, please submit the following: 

  1. One nominating letter and up to three letters of recommendation addressed to Chancellor Rich Lyons. The letters should reflect a range of viewpoints.

  2. Biographical information, as well as examples of the service your nominee has provided to the university that goes beyond teaching, research, or nonacademic career responsibilities.

  3. A description and examples of your nominee’s leadership skills, character, and broad impact on his/her community, profession, or society.
