The Chancellor’s Distinguished Service Award recognizes university faculty, staff, and organizations for outstanding service, outside of teaching or research, in a UC Berkeley school, college, or department, academic or nonacademic. The Chancellor works closely with a confidential committee to select each recipient. The award is given at a public function, and the recipients must be present to accept it.

Faculty, staff, and organizations are eligible for the Chancellor’s Distinguished Service Award. To nominate someone, please submit the following:
- One nominating letter and up to three letters of recommendation addressed to Chancellor Carol T. Christ. The letters should reflect a range of viewpoints.
- Biographical information, as well as examples of the service your nominee has provided to the university that goes beyond teaching, research, or nonacademic career responsibilities.
- A description and examples of your nominee’s leadership skills, character, and broad impact on his/her community, profession, or society.
